countdown to dilloday

Well I just got really excited because I realized that it is Thursday and not Friday and tomorrow I leave for Chicago!!!Now,before I go I wanted to leave you with an assortment of things to do this weekend as well as a few events you should be checking out if you haven't already made plans of your own...

This weekend...

I endorse anything Dayta does, especially when Michelle Tanner is subconsciously telling me to come party.Especially since I myself am a Gemini Ahhhh...

My homeboy Nosa received a really nice write up on Chron.com and I just wanted to shout out his show since I won't be at it.Ladies its free for you till 11!At least thats the time I think I see on the flyer...my eyes have been a bit sassy with me this week.

Let us also not forget about the oh so fabulous Gnarfest going down on Sunday either!Hopefully I will be back in time if not have a great weekend!
Be safe!Also............if you happen to be free June 19th you should make your way to Numbers...just saying:)

mfah mixer return

This weekend was a good one indeed! It started off on a sour note with my NYC trip getting cancelled last minute due to my flight being cancelled and all other roundtrip flights being sold out...fucking lame. But since that happened I got to check out a bunch of shows, parties, and run into a bunch of familiar faces I hadn't seen in quite a while. The highlights were definitely the random warehouse party on Friday with Skeez's crew and performances by Peekaboo Theory and Perseph 1.Always good to see my homies doing their thing :) Saturday I went to the mixer at MFAH and had a bit too much to drink but a damn good time over all. I really wish those things were year round and inside all the time instead of outside in the swamplike weather.I somehow missed mathletes but caught Voxtrot.Good times indeed. The next one is on June 21st so if I'm in town I'll stop being lazy and take some photos. My memorial weekend was topped off by the 5 dollar Jager shot +lonestar chaser at Catbirds...um can somebody tell me why I didn't know about this sooner?Wahhhh anyway.

This weekend I'm going to be in Chicago indulging in all the musical ear and eye candy that is Common,Broken Social Scene, and Ted Leo and the pharmacists, but if I get my ass back in time I hope to go to the afterparty for the new downtown skatepark opening this weekend...can somebody say finally?Alright I'll say it,finally!!!!!Check it out!

also if you are looking for something to do tomorrow Murder by Death is playing Walters. That's all that really needs to be said.

Birthday plans....

I realized if it were any other birthday, things would be different. While I would normally be at Rhythmatic at Dean's on the first Saturday of the month,Saturday June 7th, is going to be my 21st birthday.
That being the case I'm flipping the switch and doing what I want to do.Starting off by not being downtown. The last thing I want to do is encounter an HPD cop atop a horse on main st. when I'm at my most intoxicated...I feel better taking my chances at Boondocks and its dancefloor.....

There you have it!Saturday June 7th,sometime after dark I hope to see you and your people!Besides you can't beat good soul music!

Feel free to roll through and T-Pain me :)

Is it Friday yet???

So this Memorial weekend I will be playing in New York city. This will be my second time around and I'm excited about it! It will be a dub step show going down at The Pyramid Club in Manhattan for the Konkrete Jungle weekly up there. I want to send out a big thank you to the small but growing dub step community they have taken me more places in the past 6 months than I have been in my whole life. Before I swarm into Manhattan I will be spending Saturday and Sunday in Baltimore hitting up a few house parties so if you are going to be in the Baltimore/D.C area link up with me!Just to close out the dub step topic just wanted to send out a little reminder:

Tonight I will be doing a couple sets first over at the Continenal Club with my buddy Nick Gaitan then jetting over for a bit to Dean's with the boys from Hueman formerly Snowshoe and Lewis for the songwriters workshop/jam session.Damn, its only Tuesday...sometimes I really do wish I didn't have a dayjob. Thank goodness for organic foods and exercise otherwise I would have reached my limit a long time ago!
Hint to promoters: I still have yet to find a good consistent Wednesday night thing to do....it use to be Witnes at the Flat when he was here but now I'm lost with out hump day plans...get on it!

As for Thursdays shout out to Mister Andre who will be doing it big over at Speakerboxx this week. So,I'd appreciate it if after you leave the Free Press shindig at Numbers you make your way over to The Backroom...

I swear Thursday seems like new Friday...sometimes,at least.Someone let me know when the real Friday actually does get here though.

Almost forgot but its about damn time:

The oh so fabulous just in time return of the hipster free for all Starbucks Music series at the MFAH hosted by BBoy Craig and Karina Nistal. This thing is normally accompanied by a decently priced cash bar and a banger afterparty.

Shout out to the locals

It has come to my attention that Boondocks(which would be my favorite local bar if it weren't for the super slow bartenders that seem incapable of making drinks in a quick and consistent manner....you know that whole thing bartenders are supposed to be the master of?whatev.) has started having little local showcases on Monday nights.I sadly missed the one with Ryan Scroggins and The Trenchtown Texans last week but if you are looking foward to something to do tonight(Monday) I know that local punk trio Alarma! and Innerlights will be doing their thing tonight with The Last Place You look and Lazlo following suit next Monday.
This weekend was the final open weekend for the Grab Bar over on Pierce Street.Grab definitely was not one of the most glamorous places in the world but good times were had there and it will definitely be missed.
Continuing on with this new and oh so fabulous trend with showing off the local talent in Houston Free Press Houston has started what they like to call Recession Thursdays where they bring in an assortment of locals and force them to fight to the death in this huge battle dome...also known as Numbers. They haven't put up a new flyer for the talent playing this Thursday but here's the one for last week so you can kinda get the gist.

I'm hoping to make my way out there before I play there on June 19th...womp.Anyway the site has it promoted that upcoming shows will be featuring The Ton Tons,Tha F*cking Transmissions, and a whole lot more. I hope we can get this to be a big thing...and or something that runs longer than a month. Come on Houston support your locals or at least support the economy by putting some $2 Lone Stars into your system.

Rumor also has it there is some shindig going down at the MFAH all I heard was cheap cash bar so I may need to go out and help the economy myself tonight and take in a little art.All in all have a good week I will return to you with more ramblings sooner rather than later.

Also...I don't know if I like this or not:

PS I wish someone was taking me to the Police/Elvis Costello concert tomorrow night :(

Things to do this weekend....

I decided that being that summer break is upon us this weekend would be a good time for me to return to my old stomping grounds in League City,TX. I am a native Houstonian but during my high school years found myself in the little town but moved back to the H after my senior year.Tomorrow and Saturday will be dedicated to the beach and 21st birthdays for a few of my good friends with a return Saturday night to the Grab Bar closing party. There are a lot of shows/parties going down so if you need something to do here are a few ideas:

The grab party I already know will be ridiculous,it's the last weekend that it will be open so bring yourself on out!!Also there will be an after party for the Radiohead show that everyone but me is going to because I suck at life....

gaitan my man!

Tacos-a-Go-Go on Main St.is one of my favorite places of all time, not only because its delicious and open so late on the weekend, but because every time I go there I habitually run into some of my favorite people.Last night was no exception! As I was leaving Tacos-a-go-go I ran into my buddy Nick Gaitan. Formerly of Los Skarnales, and now of The Umbrella Man, Nick informed me that there was a comedy/music night that recently started at The Continental Club next door and that I should come back by to jam with them later on. I had already planned on going to a jam at Dean's but I figured since I have a residency there that I could be late and a slew of musicians would be there holding down the fort. So I came back only to arrive at the end of the comedy show and was shocked at how funny the comedians actually were.Normally when I go to comedy shows in Houston I have to make sure that my standards are set low...but these guys made me change that notion really quick with their shits and giggles aimed at family, race, and the surely legally insane prostitutes on Main St. Gotta love it.Anyway,I ended up jamming with Nick on bass,Robert on accordian, and a couple of their friends in tow to a few random improv blues/country songs. This comes as a big deal to me because I along with many others have been on the Gaitan waiting list for a while now it seems...just another thing to do if you ask me!I'm ecited and we plan to make this a regular thing on Tuesdays and Sundays. It will be early on Tuesdays though because I still do my regular songwriters workshop at Dean's with Wasi Townsend,Zero,Tony Henry,Snowshoe and Lewis and a hoard of others. This summer is looking to be a busy one indeed.

Oh!!!First week of June I will be doing a mini tour I guess of California! With dates in Los angeles and in San Francisco followed by a possible Las Vegas addition. Stay tuned and thank goodness its almost Friday.

So this weekend was an eventful one. I wasn't able to make it out to everything including the rad roots blog launch at the F
Flat and Carnival at club next due to the fact that the drinks were a bit too strong at the DAM show at Warehouse Live.It was a good night and anytime we get a Matt Sonzala sighting in the H these days you know the night is going to be a good one!

My Saturday was taken over by Gritsy(photos all by Omar):

After Gritsy I found myself with about twenty minutes left before 2am so I jetted over to Boondocks and caught the end of dayta's set. It was banger he through in a nice blend of old school Michael Jackson into Marvin Gaye which was a nice, soft end to a loud night.

Man...so the weekend is upon is and I forgot to mention another big thing going down tonight my friends Ryan and Dawn are launching their blog tonight...with a more formal-esque launch party going down at the flat tonight.I know the blog is supposed to be focusing on everything from urban music to art to whatever else they feel like talking about so after the DAM/H.I.S.D show at Warehouse I plan on showing my face at the flat.Looks like a good time,no cover:

AHHH snap make it official

I decided to stop being lazy and actually put some real use into this blog.I'm temping in corporate America right now and due to whatever previous employee behavior all "social networking sites" are blocked...including all major email sites(myspace, facebook, gmail, yahoo etc.) simply put lame times a million. So I'm having to seek out other promo tactics to get my work accomplished. This summer is going to be a busy one!My doo wop group The Pearls will begin out first series of shows starting this Mother's Day with continuous back to back dates.Check the myspace for The Pearls for future shows.

As for my solo stuff I have a TON of stuff coming up!This Sautrday night I will be doing my regular hosting gig at Gritsy! at G.r.a.b Bar.This will be the final Gritsy at G.r.a.b since it will be sadly closing soon. The Dubstep scene has been really good to me so I make sure to show it love as well!June 13th I will be playing with Fat Tony and Yougenious at the Mink/Backroom.Then that next week I will be in the FreePressHouston local music series at Numbers. Then right afterward will be the two monsters:

July 20th I will be playing with one of my favorite bands the RX Bandits at the Meridian.

My previous band Heptic Skeptic pretty much idolized this band because we,also, had started out as a ska band and were slowly on the up and comeup to finding our own sound.Sadly when we finally got it thats when some of the other members wanted to go and try out a few other ventures in their lives.

On May 30th it will mark the one year anniversary of the breakup of Heptic and the beginning of me,Kam,the solo artist. It's been a rough year but it is finally beginning to pay off!!!July 20th is going to be proof of that with an insane amount of hard work and networking, you can achieve goals(playing with the bandits) that once seemed impossible.Okay now that the after school special is over here are some show details:

RX BANDITS,PORTUGAL THE MAN,KAM,FACING NEW YORK!!!

Tickets are 13.00 at livenation.com!!!

The other monster will make is appearance August 1st.I use to book shows all the time back in the day but haven't done so in at least a year so I decided to make a return to that aspect as well and bust out with one of the most diverse local shows you are going to see .
