So what a year it has been. This year I:
-Got my first apartment
-Broke up with a boy
-left a bad job
-went a little crazy
-played a lot of new shows
-met a new boy
-broke my ankle
-cried when Michael Jackson died
-rocked it in a wheelchair/scooter/walker for 3 months
-won a Houston Press award
-got writers block...for 3 months
-went on tour with my broken ankle and played across from the flaming lips with the very best -during Pitchfork festival
-got a little fat(currently going down)
-learned to get along with my parents
-found a new job
-made a lot of new friends
-reconnected with some old ones
-learned a lot
caught a cold from one of the mechanics at my job. Not that bad I'm downing lots of vitamins and water.I sure do hate being sick though.
A former party girl learning the corporate world(trying not to lose herself in the process)
Big hair and a bigger smile

- Houston, Texas, United States
- Ex-party girl 20 something. I went from a life of chaos to a life of calm. These are my ramblings

I have a temporary gym membership at 24 hour fitness. I'm excited because I've never done this before. All of my working out has always been via parks and what not, but seeing how the freezing weather attacked Houston this year, I had to step up my workout game. I am getting closer to reaching my fitness goals but I've realized that to fully achieve them I'm going to have to take the initiative.
Wish me luck ya'll!

Happy Holidays
This truly is my favorite time of year. All my old friends come home, family is all over the place, and the amount of food is overwhelming.
Though I must say one of my favorite things about Christmas is the music. After a while it gets a little annoying(especially if you work in retail), but some songs I still look forward to. Like this one:

umemployed but happy
I have been job hunting like a madwoman recently...
I have submitted 100+ resumes
and have been on about 40 interviews and counting.
Can some just employ me already.
I just ordered some new glasses today to help with that whole bad vision thing I have going on. Anyway, hopefully the thick black frames will make them all take me more seriously.
This past weekend we started renovating the upstairs bathroom at my boyfriend Eric's house. We are redoing all of the tile...ourselves.
Heaven help us.The before shots:

I'm not the smartest tool in the box and accidentally deleted all my food photos. I've started cooking recently at home to ease off a few pounds.Last week I cooked rib-eye steak, mashed potatoes and field of greens salad. This week, I'm gonna mix it up a bit on the nights that I don't perform and start going all out on my meals.I'll try to add some photos next time so that I can show off my work ;)
In other news,I've started writing a bunch of new songs.I can't express how good of a feeling it is to return to writing after a few months of writers block.

zombie virgins
So I'm finally walking after being bed ridden for 2 months!! It's been a slow process for me but I'm happy to say I'm at about 70 percent now.In the midst of it all I've slowed down all my music projects with the exception of The Umbrella Man to focus on getting better.I'm hoping to schedule a few Heptic Skeptic shows before the years end.
To pass the time,I started filming this zombie film with my boyfriend Eric for a short film contest going on in Austin next month. Neither of us have ever done this before, but seriously,it's zombies, how can we not have a good time trying?Still shot from yesterday:

My consistent blogging over the past month and a half has been hindered by quite a few things but mainly a broken ankle. On July 8, I decided it would be a smart idea to hop on a bike after more than just a few drinks...the result an open(meaning my bone popped out)compound fracture(broken) to my ankle.
Since I've been unable to walk, drive,or do much really you'd think that would have stopped me.I went on tour with THE VERY BEST (Radioclit/Esau Mwamuaya) a week and a half after I got out of the hospital.Sadly,I couldn't dance like it was originally intended but I was able to shake it via chair and sing backup vocals.
Currently, I'm placing all my focus on getting back to my old self. I miss performing every night and driving here, there, and everywhere. Slowly but surely :)

Afropunkaliciousness
Last night I went to 91.7 KTRU(Rice Radio) to do a few songs with my main homie Fat Tony, and the brothas from other mothas...Ryan Grimes bka Love Field,B L A C K I E,and Smash Bro! We were also graced by the wonderful vixen that is Lisa E. I would just first off like to say that Ian Wells is a G, and took care of us.I also have to thank him for ignoring the random expletives that unintentionally seemed to consistently pop out. Everyone was krunk on life.

That photo was taken after everything went down so we all look rough as fuck but who cares?Anyway, I just wanted to plug an event that the boys will be doing on the 19th.The listing is down below, so show love and what not. Dig?
They will be Screening White Lies Black Sheep Friday June 19th 6-8PM at IndieHouston.org House located at 1816 Calumet following that expect performances from
Fat Tony,B L A C K I E,The Cocker Spaniels,and Love Field.

So every Wednesday my friend Christa organizes this bike ride pizza party. We suit up,pack knives, and bike around town until we find the perfect pizza and then rob em for all they got! By rob I mean hug.
Anyway yesterday I took over since Christa is in Mexico for the week trying to catch swine flu.Well, basically everyone canceled except for a few folk that had never gone before. Way to make me look awesome...not. The night ended up going well once Mr. Beam came into the picture. With whiskey in our blood we departed and though pizza didn't occur last night, spring rolls did and I couldn't be happier.
This week is disco prom,3414 pub crawl, one of my best friend's weddings, and possibly a beach trip.I couldn't be happier.
Oh I am excited about this!!

scoot inn
This past weekend was pretty damn fantastic.I performed in Austin on Friday with my Heptic Skeptic boys and The Bandulus. It was a night of weirdos, rock steady, and cheap beer. I highly recommend playing there if you are looking for a chill ass place to play in Austin.
Saturday I went to the artstorm thing at the backroom.A lot of bands...I missed half the ones that I wanted to see but bahh well what can you do?Listen Listen I will say was the most impressive set of the night for me.I'm a sucker for good harmonies! That was followed to a trip to block 21 for a baby gritsy...good times all around minus waiting 2 hours for sushi in the middle of the night at crave. It was funny to watch the drunk girls do the walk of shame in their heels from all the surrounding douche bag clubs though.

So I made a shithead move and skipped class the two weeks before finals to go to band practice instead and now I have two 10 pages papers due this week. One is due today at 5:30 and the other is due at 3pm on wednesday...damn.
Well at least school will be over after this week yayyyyyyyyy summer.
Is it still summer when you work 40 hours a week?I'm not so sure.
Fuck me.

So I have about 3 and a half shows this weekend. Two with Heptic Skeptic,Gritsy, and then I'm moonlighting with the Sideshow Tramps on early Saturday night.
I'm on this quest to become a better, more consistent singer.I feel like it would be a shame to just go dormant.I was talking to my friend Geoffrey, who is also notorious for playing and ungodly amount of shows, and he feels the exact same way.The thing is though any real musician knows it not just about getting better, its about the love.I love performing. There are few things that come close to the happiness I feel when I'm on stage.Anyway...I'm getting off of that.
This weekend should be pretty damn good.I'll try and post up the flyers for everything later on today!

busy body
Listening to old Etta James tracks make me want to go back to the studio and get my game up.When you get some free time check out "Don't cry baby".It's pure magic.
I joined twitter.Honestly,I think the site is bullshit but I've been told its an easy way to connect and book some shows so I will test it out.I'm sure I will have a new addiction in a week.
Follow me at twitter.com/hepticskeptic or twitter.com/bamitskam
I have gotten back on the workout train. It sucks in case you didn't know but the way you feel afterward is worth it.Tons of stuff coming up!!I have been working hard ALREADY on the anniversary of Leave your Genre at the Door even though it isn't until August! Well I figure the best shows are the ones that are planned crazy in advance.
Anyway...I kinda outdid myself I will be babysitting 17 bands that day.
I need to just quit being a lazy ass and change my major to PR.

Westfest week
This is my favorite time of the year in Houston mainly because I get to hang out with all my artist friends that I rarely get to see due to the face that we are all wrapped up in our on shit.
Here's where I'll be:
1:20pm-1:45pm Heptic Skeptic plays at 203 westheimer-city of montrose stage
3:00-3:30 Nosaprise
7:30-8:00 Free Radicals
7:30-8:00 Sideshow Tramps outside mangos
8:55-9:20 perseph 1 upstairs numbers
8:55-9:20 Fat Tony La Strada
i kinda hate that 4 of the people im performing with have clashing times...especially when 2 of them are normally on the same stage..whatever.

I have no shame
Yes I'm at work right now updating info on facebook, myspace, purevolume etc. about where I will be and doing during SXSW. I just found out the me and my friend Josianne will be dancing at SXSW with my good friends Radiclit and Esau Mwamwaya and their project THE VERY BEST. We are going to be free styling some African dances and whatnot so if you are out and about come say hey! I'm really excited about getting out of Houston for a few days and not answering any phones and just floating about the ATX.Hope to run into some familiar faces.

sloth
At first was going to make this a blog for the people, but I'm lazy and selfish and am in no mood to start a twitter account like my friend Anthony b.k.a Fat Tony keeps telling me to do. I figure if I can occasionally keep a blog maybe I will get cool one day like everyone else and keep a twitter until then I'll keep to rambling on here.
So last night after a dreadful week of midterms I went over to the SXSW mixer over at the Caroline Collective. I was really hesitant about going at first but it eventually ended up being a really good time. New faces and new friends.
Oh the Houston Press put out this article about me yesterday:
http://www.houstonpress.com/2009-03-12/music/bam-it-s-kam/
and just to clear up the thing about Solange...it was a joke people no seriousness involved in that whatsoever!
